It's Fat Bear Week! CHICAGO — It's that time of year to celebrate the girth of one of the biggest creatures in nature before they take a long nap. That's because it's "Fat Bear Week"!It's a contest being held by the National Park Service at Katmai National Park & Preserve to see which bear is the biggest before hibernation. This is actually a good thing since bears won't be eating for the next few months while taking their long winter nap.That is just one of the things that we discussed on the "9@9" on Tuesday's WGN Morning News as the host talked about their excitement for "Fat Bear Week."We also talked about a Ryder Cup celebration, trapdoor spiders, an evil hack, an ostrich vs. emu, air hockey, and more during the segment. Don't put pets through airport X-ray machines, TSA says CLEVELAND (WJW) — In preparation for the busy holiday season ahead, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is reminding pet owners about the proper way to get through security when traveling with an animal. It seems there have been multiple instances recently where folks have failed to remove pets from carriers and have put them through X-ray machines at security checkpoints. X-ray machines are not for animals, TSA said.The cat was discovered by a TSA officer after the checked bag was passed through an X-ray unit. (TSA)As traveling with pets can be stressful for all involved, TSA offered these helpful tips in a statement to help ease the process: All pets should be brought to a security checkpoint in a hand-held travel carrier. Remove the pet from the carrier just prior to the beginning of the screening process.Place the empty travel carrier on the checkpoint conveyor belt so it can be X-rayed.Never place a pet in the X-ray tunnel. Illinois State Police looking for vehicle potentially involved in ammonia incident TEUTOPOLIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Illinois State Police is asking for the public's help in finding and identifying a vehicle they say was potentially involved in the crash that caused an anhydrous ammonia leak that killed five people and injured several others.ISP linked to this video that they say shows the vehicle passing through the intersection. RELATED: Teutopolis family speaks out in aftermath of deadly crash According to police the crash occurred at 19470 East U.S. Highway 40. The crash involved a semi-truck tanker carrying anhydrous ammonia that was punctured in the crash and leaked causing the evacuation of the nearby area and five deaths.ISP said investigation led police to believe a dark colored vehicle of unknown make and model may have been involved in the incident as it headed westbound on U.S. 40. Texas Rep. Cuellar unharmed in armed carjacking in DC (The Hill) - Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) was carjacked in Washington, D.C. on Monday night, according to a staffer from his office. Cuellar was parking his car outside of his apartment in Navy Yard, D.C. when three armed individuals approached the congressman and stole his car, Cuellar's chief of staff confirmed to The Hill. Rep. New updated guidelines for breast cancer screenings — here's what to know AUSTIN (KXAN) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and according to health officials, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.This year, two new guidelines were issued in hopes of detecting breast cancer early.“Breast cancer is the most common cancer that is detected in women, it doesn't matter if you don't have risk factors for breast cancer, just being a woman is enough of a risk factor,” said breast surgeon Dr. Ingrid Lizarraga. “And we know that the survival for breast cancer is much better when it is detected early.”The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) now recommends women at average risk of developing breast cancer get a regular mammogram starting at age 40 instead of 50.
