RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Back in the summer, long before it became a way to quietly send a message, DK Metcalf decided he wanted to learn more about a class on American Sign Language he took in college. He saw it as a hobby to do away from the field that would teach him something new.The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver didn’t intend on it becoming a method to express himself on the field without getting in trouble.“I always try to exercise my mind or try to learn something new,” Metcalf said. “In the past I was taking acting classes, now I figured let’s take it a step further.”Metcalf’s path learning ASL came to light after he scored the first of his three touchdown catches last week in Seattle’s 41-35 loss to Dallas. Following the 73-yard touchdown catch-and-run, Metcalf signed the phrase, “Standing on business,” which quickly caught the attention of everyone watching the Thursday night game. The sign was first shown to Metcalf by teammate Boye Mafe, who learned ASL when he was younger an...

Dolphins need to beat Titans so they can focus on longer-term goal of division title

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Coach Mike McDaniel’s Miami Dolphins have done a lot of winning this season: They’re 9-3 for the first time in 22 years and are tied for the best record in the AFC. They’ve outscored opponents 384-266 with an offense that leads the NFL in passing, yards per play, yards per rush and red-zone efficiency. What does McDaniel think of that?“Call me when it’s a 13-game season,” he said. “That’s all nice, but we have a job to do today. If we shortchange and are worried about anything other than the Tennessee Titans when we’re game planning … then all those conversations and stories literally don’t matter at all.”Hosting a playoff game is the Dolphins’ long-term goal as they try to close in on their first division title since 2008. This week’s only focus is beating the Tennessee Titans (4-8) on Monday night. The Titans have just one victory since Oct. 29 and are winless on the road. Coach Mike Vrabel has insisted his team will no...

Hackett says Wilson was able to ‘re-center’ while being benched in the Jets’ past 2 games

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Zach Wilson was benched by the New York Jets to try to spark the offense. Two games later, there’s still barely a flicker. So, Wilson is back as the starter — again — and he’ll be under center Sunday when the Jets take on the Houston Texans.“I think that he’s had the two weeks off to re-center himself and learn and continually grow,” offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said Thursday. “I think that when we look at it from the very beginning of this season, the whole idea was for him to be able to sit back and learn from Aaron (Rodgers). “I think that those two weeks are something that he was able to do.”Wilson mostly struggled during his first two NFL seasons after being the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2021. That led to the Jets — convinced they were only a quarterback away from being playoff contenders — working out a deal to acquire Rodgers from Green Bay in the offseason. The plan for Wilson to absorb as much as he could from Rodgers fr...

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers got back in the playoff race over the last month. And all they have to do to nail down a postseason spot is take advantage of a weak schedule during the final five weeks. The Packers (6-6) will look for a fourth straight win and fifth in six games when they face the Tommy DeVito-led New York Giants (4-8) at MetLife Stadium on Monday night. The game kicks off a stretch for the Packers that will feature games against Tampa Bay (5-7), Carolina (1-11), Minnesota (6-6) and Chicago (4-8).Not only does the schedule appear fairly easy, playing in December has been the best of times for the Packers since Matt LaFleur took over as coach in 2019. They missed last season with an 8-9 record. The only team to win more consecutive December games was the San Diego Chargers with 18 straight from 2006-09, before their ...

Jared Polis shared his priorities for lawmakers on "Colorado Point of View."A 19-person committee is already set to get to work at the end of the month to address a long-term plan for property tax relief.
