Twins’ Nick Gordon heading to injured list with fractured right shin

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Minnesota Twins center fielder Nick Gordon is heading to the injured list after he fractured his right shin during Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.The injury occurred when Gordon fouled a pitch by Dylan Covey off his leg during the fifth inning. Gordon grimaced in pain and was looked at trainers for five minutes before he decided to remain in the game. He struck out swinging on the next pitch and then was pulled.Manager Rocco Baldelli said after the Twins’ 7-3 loss that Gordon would “be out for a bit, sadly.” Gordon is batting .185, but had started to find his stride after having a .143 average at the end of April. He was 6 for 19 with two RBIs in his last seven games going into Wednesday. He was hitless in two at-bats in the series finale.Willi Castro and Michael A. DENVER (KDVR) — There appears to be interest in the possibility of placing weapons detection systems on Denver Public Schools campuses.Parents who met with the Denver Public Schools superintendent in a teleconference town hall on Wednesday said it's a strategy they’d like to see the district focus on. The superintendent wanted to hear what parents are thinking about the district's long-term safety plan. DENVER (KDVR) – A Colorado police officer was awarded with the Medal of Valor by President Joe Biden Wednesday at the White House for his acts of bravery in the line of duty.Cpl. Jeffrey Farmer of the Littleton Police Department was honored for his action to save the life of another officer while being shot at and fighting his own serious injury. DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Police Department said 16 guns were recently stolen out of a pickup truck parked in front of a hotel.According to DPD, the firearms were wrapped with graphics advertising “We Buy Guns” and have not been recovered. The thief only had to break a window to get into the truck and grab the guns. An investigation is still underway to locate a suspect and the stolen weapons. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — As a level one trauma center, Swedish Medical Center cares for some of the most critical injuries. Each year, the hospital hosts a Trauma Survivors Day. It gives survivors and their care teams a chance to reunite and reflect on progress.
